Home maintenance tools

Estimate materials, prepare a toolkit and make a budget using your measurements and local prices.

Enter your product’s coverage and your own local prices. Results are planning estimates; they do not establish a safe repair method.

01 / Materials

Paint calculator

Four rectangular walls. Deduct doors and windows; ceilings are separate.

Formula & assumptions

Gallons = ((2 × (length + width) × height) − openings) × coats ÷ label coverage. Coverage of 350 is an editable example, not a product guarantee. Round to actual can sizes. Texture, primer and extra touch-up paint are not included. 1 US gal = 3.78541 L; 1 sq ft = 0.092903 m².

02 / Materials

Flooring calculator

Plan material quantity for one rectangular room. Add irregular areas separately.

Formula & assumptions

Required area = length × width × (1 + waste / 100). Boxes = area ÷ box coverage, rounded up. The 10% allowance is an editable planning assumption. Patterns, matching and complex cuts can require more. Ask the flooring supplier for your product and layout.

03 / Materials

Caulk calculator

Estimate volume. Use the product’s permitted joint dimensions and backer requirements.

Formula & assumptions

Volume in cubic inches = feet × 12 × width × depth × shape factor. Divide by 1.8046875 to get US fluid ounces; include waste, then divide by cartridge size and round up. A triangular bead uses factor 0.5. This idealized geometry does not specify the correct joint design.

Home repair cost estimator

Build a budget using prices or quotes you already have.

What is included

Subtotal = materials + tools + hours × rate + other + materials × tax / 100. Add the chosen contingency to that subtotal. Tax applies only to materials in this simplified model; enter additional local taxes under “other”. This is not a local market-price database or a contractor quotation.

Plan the next step

Fix now or plan later?

Compare your own repair quote with a possible later scenario. This is not a prediction of failure, an insurance estimate or a safety clearance.

How the comparison works

Later scenario = assumed later repair + assumed damage/disruption. Difference = later scenario − today’s quote. Months are context only; this tool does not forecast inflation, probability, progression or expected loss. A cheaper scenario never makes an emergency safe to postpone. Values stay in your browser memory and are not saved.
